Town Bank is located in Lower Township, Cape May County, New Jersey, the southern-most county in the state. Bordering Town Bank to the south is Cape May City, an historic landmark in New Jersey. To the north is Villas, East is Erma and to the West is the Delaware Bay.
Lower Township has 3 Fire Departments, covering 3 separate fire districts, each district having their own Fire Commission. Fire District #1 is covered by the Villas Fire Department station 60, Fire District #2 is covered by us, Town Bank Fire Department station 61 and Fire District #3 is covered by Erma Fire Department station 62. Each Fire Commission raises funds through taxation.
Town Bank Vol. Fire Department has served Lower Township since 1945, and its 52-member Department responds to an average of 180 calls per year. We operate out of one station with 2 Engines, 1 Tower Ladder, a Tanker, Brush unit , Dive/Rescue Unit, and 2 Marine units. Our response area is approximately 11.8 square miles of Lower Township including 5 miles out in the Delaware Bay, south to Cape May Point, East along the Canal to Schellengers Landing located near the United States Coast Guard Base in Cape May. A winter population of 12,000 and swelling close to 30,000 in the summer months.
Motorists traveling south on the Garden State Parkway heading to Delaware and all points beyond must travel through our response area to the Cape May Lewes Ferry, located 2 miles form our station. A majority of our area is single family dwellings ranging from single story homes to multi-million dollar beach front homes in Cape May Beach. Our department has a diverse response area including strip malls, apartment complexes, convalescent and rehabilitation centers, 3 schools, marinas, restaurants and local businesses. Mutual aid is also given and received to Cape May, West Cape May, Villas and Erma.
Each year our Members participate in many local activities and charity fund raiser including our own Company Fund drive letter sent out asking for donations. Training is a vital part of firefighting, adding to this, the recreational water ways in our area require us to be ready for any situation. The dedicated men and woman of our department strive to serve our community with the most up-to-date rescue equipment and training courses offered by the Cape May County Fire Marshals office and the Cape May County Fire training Academy. Adding to our safe community is the Lower Township Bureau of Fire Safety, The Lower Township Police Department and the Lower Township Rescue Squad. It is the co-operation of these organizations that make Lower Township a great place to call home.
